How this works
When you drop a file on a converter, it is read by JavaScript running on your own machine, decoded, re-encoded, and handed straight back to you as a download. There is no server in the middle, no upload progress bar hiding a transfer, and no copy waiting in a queue to be deleted in 24 hours. Open your browser's network panel while you convert something and you will see it: no request goes out.
What that costs
Because the work happens on your device, very large files are limited by your own memory rather than by an upload cap, and a phone will be slower than a laptop on the same file. A few formats need a one-off codec download before their first conversion. In exchange, nothing you convert is ever visible to anyone but you.
